blinkx Launches Video Widget at DEMO 07, New Tool Integrates Video into Websites with a Few Clicks

PALM DESERT AND SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-January 30, 2007-  Today, at the opening of DEMO 07, blinkx (, the largest video search engine on the Web, unveiled “blinkx it”, a free and simple tool that enables bloggers to insert relevant video streams into their blogs, and casual website builders to spice up their sites with video.

blinkx is the only search engine optimized for finding rich media on the Web. Its patented search technology uses speech-to-text transcription to index online video, both user-generated and commercial content, so that users enjoy a breadth and accuracy of search results not available elsewhere.  Now, with the introduction of “blinkx it”, blinkx is enabling users to become broadcasters, to harness the variety of content in its video index, and to enhance their blogs or websites with customized video channels.

“blinkx it” is easy to install on personal blogs, websites, or MySpace pages. Users can click on the “blinkx it” link and embed the code straight into their blog, either as a drop down menu, or as a video wall. Once in place, “blinkx it” draws on more seven million hours of audio and video in the blinkx index, making it easy to add pizzazz - and highly relevant videos - to any blog post or website.

“With the explosion of online video, users everywhere - from bloggers to fan site hosts and many places in between - are asking for new ways to inject the excitement of video into what was, until recently, a text- and picture-based medium,” said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CTO, blinkx.  “Until last year, only major media outlets had the resources to work with video on the Web, but now anyone can get creative with video. We are taking it a step further with blinkx it’. We’re bridging the gap between video and text, allowing bloggers, for example, to enhance their posts and keep their readers engaged for longer, by offering relevant videos for free.”

As the pioneer in video search technology, blinkx has built a reputation as the smartest way to search new forms of online content, such as video and podcasts. blinkx uses advanced speech recognition technology that delivers results that are more accurate and reliable than standard metadata-based keyword searches.
