blinkx Receives U.S. Patent for Moving Thumbnails Technology

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.—January 26, 2012— blinkx, the world’s largest and most advanced video search engine, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded a patent to blinkx for its innovative moving thumbnail technology. This is the first patent granted to blinkx and it covers the company’s video wall for displaying video search results on blinkx.com.

“This patent grant further validates blinkx’s industry-leading breakthroughs in online video,” said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CEO, blinkx. “It is a formal recognition of our unique, interactive and customizable video wall that is a first-in-the-category product.”

As the volume of video content available online continues to explode, organizing that content and making it easily discoverable has become increasingly important. The video wall, and its underlying technology, create a compact and navigable system for browsing and previewing content in a search setting. It bridges the gap between search results and the videos that a user intends to watch, making it easy for users to find the best, most relevant content possible among all search results. blinkx’s moving thumbnail technology helps to frame and present Web video in a useful way, and leads the industry in video search mechanics.
